Los Angeles – June 5, 2025: The Los Angeles Business Journal has named Crowell & Moring partners Emily Kuwahara and Sima Namiri-Kalantari to its 2025 Women of Influence: Attorneys list. The honorees demonstrate “exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large.”

Washington – July 14, 2023: Lawyers of Color has recognized four Crowell & Moring lawyers on its Hot List 2023 and two on its inaugural Wonderful Women list.

Los Angeles – January 31, 2022: Los Angeles Business Journal named Crowell & Moring partners Nicole Janigian Simonian and Emily Kuwahara to its 2022 “Leaders of Influence: Minority Attorneys” list. The list recognizes the significant achievements of minority attorneys who are “considered to be particularly impactful on the legal scene while serving as trusted advisors in the LA region.”

Los Angeles – December 23, 2021: The Los Angeles Business Journal has named partners Jennifer Romano and Emily Kuwahara to its 2021 “Thriving in their 40s” list. The list highlights the “top 100 Los Angeles professionals,” and is based on “a demonstration of impact made on the profession and on the Los Angeles community.”

Los Angeles – July 16, 2020: The Department of Homeland Security reversed its directive that would have forced international students to leave the United States if they were enrolled in only online classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Crowell & Moring worked with the University of California to file a lawsuit against the federal government and motion for injunctive relief, joining other universities making similar moves.

Los Angeles – December 30, 2019: The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated a jury verdict in a civil case brought by the mother of a mentally ill black man who was killed by a police officer in Bakersfield, allowing a new trial to move forward that would admit lay testimony from the victim’s mother to prove that the officer should have recognized that the man was exhibiting signs of mental illness and followed specialized protocols for encountering mentally ill individuals.

Washington – October 23, 2019: A federal judge halted the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from implementing its controversial “public charge” rule, a policy change that advocacy groups assert would have disproportionately blocked immigrants of color from obtaining permanent resident status and inhibited immigrant workers and foreign students from extending or changing their visa status.

Los Angeles – February 1, 2019: Crowell & Moring’s Emily Kuwahara, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group, has been named among the Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Most Influential Minority Attorneys in Los Angeles.”

Los Angeles – September 5, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Emily T. Kuwahara, a Los Angeles-based partner in the firm’s Litigation Group, is one of 19 lawyers recognized among the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association’s (NAPABA) 2018 Best Lawyers Under 40. The award recognizes talented individuals within the Asian Pacific American (APA) community under the age of 40 who have achieved prominence and distinction in their fields and who have demonstrated a strong commitment to Asian Pacific American civic or community affairs. The award will be presented during the 2018 NAPABA Convention in Chicago.

San Francisco – December 16, 2016: On December 14, 2016, the Supreme Court of California denied an appeal filed by Medivation, Inc. against a Crowell & Moring client, The Regents of the University of California (The Regents), in a longstanding licensing dispute over a promising cancer drug, upholding the First Appellate District for the California Court of Appeal decision from September 2016 in favor of The Regents. The decision upheld the trial result in which the firm had secured $32 million in additional licensing income for The Regents, obtained summary judgment on claims made against The Regents, and secured a jury verdict in favor of one of the UCLA inventors.

Washington, D.C. – January 14, 2014: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce it has elected five attorneys to the firm's partnership effective January 1, 2014.
