Crowell & Moring Elects Six New Partners and Promotes 19 Associates to Counsel

Washington, D.C. – January 9, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it has elected six lawyers to the firm's partnership, effective January 1, 2017. The firm has also promoted 19 associates to the position of counsel. The new partners have been promoted from within the ranks of the firm's Washington, D.C., New York, Orange County, and Los Angeles offices and underscore the firm's commitment to its Antitrust, Commercial Litigation, Environment & Natural Resources, Government Contracts, Health Care, International Trade, and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement practices.

The newly elected partners of 2017 are:
Deborah E. Arbabi (Orange County) – Arbabi is a member of the firm's Antitrust group. She is a leader in the firm’s Recovery practice and has helped the firm’s clients recover over $500 million in recent years. She concentrates on claims recovery and focuses the majority of her practice to pursuing and maximizing claims in large antitrust and tort settlements. She is experienced in the process by which class action settlements are administered and distributed, and in resolving disputes involving allowable purchases, sufficiency of data, jurisdictional issues, and matters affecting allocations of funds. Arbabi also serves on the Board of Directors for the Public Law Center, Orange County's public interest law firm. Arbabi received her J.D. from the University of Southern California Law School, where she served as the executive notes editor for the Interdisciplinary Law Journal, and her B.A. from Miami University of Oxford, Ohio.
David Chung (Washington, D.C.) – Chung is a member of the firm’s Environment & Natural Resources Group. His practice focuses on litigation and regulatory counseling involving natural resources development and environmental issues. He has experience with matters concerning various environmental and public lands statutes, including the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, Federal Land Policy and Management Act, and National Forest Management Act. Chung recently served as a co-chair of the American Bar Association Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources Water Quality and Wetlands Committee. Chung received his J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School, where he was the senior notes editor of the Public Contract Law Journal, and his B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Adelicia R. Cliffe (Washington, D.C.) – Cliffe is a member of the firm's Government Contracts and International Trade groups. She represents clients with respect to a broad range of government contracts and international trade compliance issues, with specialties including U.S. export controls, the Buy American Act, Trade Agreements Act and other domestic preference programs, the Foreign Military Sales and Foreign Military Financing programs, and other U.S. laws and regulations applicable to international transactions. Cliffe also counsels clients with respect to foreign investment and ownership in the United States, and applicable U.S. laws and regulations such as Exon-Florio and the National Industrial Security Program. She received her J.D., Order of the Coif, with high honors, from The George Washington University Law School, where she was editor-in-chief of the Public Contract Law Journal, and her B.S. from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service.
Derek A. Hahn (Orange County/Los Angeles) – Hahn is a member of the firm’s White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group. He focuses his practice on white collar defense, internal investigations, complex litigation, and compliance counseling. He has represented clients in an array of white collar matters, including financial fraud, public corruption, conflicts of interest, insurance fraud, counterfeiting, procurement integrity, and health care fraud. He has substantial expertise in matters involving the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and has counseled clients across six continents on matters including government and internal investigations, third-party due diligence reviews, compliance program and training evaluations, and post-acquisition anti-corruption risk assessments. Hahn received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School Of Law, where he was a member of the Virginia Law Review, and received his B.S.E., cum laude, from Duke University.
Emily T. Kuwahara (Los Angeles) – Kuwahara is a member of the firm's Commercial Litigation Group. She has a broad-based litigation practice, including breach of contract actions, business torts, antitrust and consumer class actions, unfair competition law and other complex business disputes at the trial and appellate court levels. Kuwahara has also represented clients in criminal antitrust matters and grand jury investigations, particularly in Japan. She received her J.D. from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law, her M.A. from Michigan State University, and her B.S. from Stanford University.
Michael W. Lieberman (Washington, D.C.) – Lieberman is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Health Care, and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement groups. He litigates complex matters in federal, state, and arbitral forums, with a particular focus on commercial health care disputes, class actions, e-discovery, and fraud and False Claims Act cases. His clients include managed care companies, health benefit plans, clinical laboratories, government contractors, corporate and individual criminal defendants, and various other corporate commercial litigants. He received his J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was senior editor and board member for the Georgetown Law Journal, and his B.A. from Duke University.
