Crowell & Moring Attorneys Honored With 2025 Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing

Washington – March 7, 2025: The Burton Awards honored Crowell & Moring partner Joanna Rosen Forster, counsel Jacob Canter and Derick D. Dailey, and associate Matt Menezes with Law360’s Distinguished Legal Writing Award for their article discussing a Supreme Court ruling and its impact on social media companies. The award will be presented at a gala reception at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. on Monday, May 19.
The authors won the highly respected writing award for their article, “The State Law Landscape After Justices' Social Media Ruling.” The award is presented by the Burton Awards program, a national nonprofit organization run in association with the Library of Congress. The awards are presented by Law360 and co-sponsored by the American Bar Association. Just 20 articles were selected from entries submitted by the nation’s 1,000 largest law firms.
Forster is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group, based in San Francisco. Her practice focuses on domestic and cross-border complex commercial litigation matters, as well as advising technology and e-commerce companies on matters related to internet platforms, product launches, market campaigns, new vertical lines of business, and foreign and domestic laws that regulate online content.
Canter is a counsel in Crowell’s Litigation and Privacy and Cybersecurity groups, based in San Francisco. His practice focuses on technology and competition litigation as it relates to intellectual property, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the Biometric Information Privacy Act, state privacy laws, contracts, and licensing. His counseling practice focuses on compliance with state, federal, and international privacy laws; technology licensing; and cybersecurity incident response.
Dailey is a counsel in Crowell’s Litigation, White Collar and Regulatory Enforcement, and State Attorney General groups, based in New York. A former federal prosecutor and senior counsel to the New Jersey Attorney General, Dailey represents clients facing state attorneys general inquiries and investigations, as well as in complex commercial litigation and investigative matters in federal and state courts and before federal and state regulatory agencies.
Menezes is an associate in the Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources and Litigation groups, based in the firm’s San Francisco office. He is a counselor and litigator whose practice focuses on federal regulations, renewable energy development, and on privacy and data integrity.
