New York – December 16, 2020: City & State New York named Juan A. Arteaga, a partner in Crowell & Moring’s New York office and co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Council, to its 2020 edition of The Responsible 100. This annual list honors “executives, thought leaders, visionaries and influencers, who are setting new standards for excellence, dedication and leadership in improving their communities and making transformative change.”
The publication asked honorees to share their insights on social responsibility and the best advice they have ever received. For Arteaga, it was advice from his mother that instilled his sense of social responsibility early on. “When I graduated from law school” said Arteaga, “my mother told me that I had been blessed with the privilege of becoming an attorney, but emphasized that with this privilege comes the obligation to use the voice and platform I have been given to help and serve the neediest members of society.”
A member of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement groups with significant litigation and trial experience, Arteaga is a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division, where he led and oversaw various high-profile civil and criminal investigations and litigation. His practice focuses primarily on advising companies, boards of directors, special committees, and executives on a broad range of civil and criminal antitrust matters. In his own words, he enjoys “helping clients craft their legal strategies while partnering with them to minimize any business and reputational risks presented by a matter.”
Arteaga serves as the Board Chair of Northern Manhattan Improvement Corp., which provides legal, social, educational and job training services and programs to impoverished New York City communities. He also serves on the Boards of Legal Outreach, a pipeline diversity program that provides educational resources to youth in underserved New York City communities, and Free the Slaves, which combats human trafficking and forced labor. Arteaga has been recognized as a leading lawyer by numerous professional publications and associations and has also received numerous awards for his pro bono work and civic involvement.
