Washington – June 27, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it has been awarded two industry awards for its role in handling the world’s largest blockchain investment to date: The Deal’s “Most Innovative Deal of the Year” and the Association for Corporate Growth and the M&A Advisor’s “Deal of the Year” in the financial services category. The firm was selected for shepherding a landmark FinTech deal last year in which more than 40 global banks, among others, invested $107 million in R3, a recently formed blockchain/distributed ledger technology (DLT) company.

Washington – June 15, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP congratulates our longstanding client AT&T on its landmark trial victory over the Justice Department, which cleared the way for the telecommunications company to complete its $85 billion purchase of Time Warner. U.S. District Court Judge Richard J. Leon ruled on Tuesday, and AT&T closed the deal last night.

Washington – May 30, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Susan M. "Susie" Hoffman, the firm's public service partner, has been voted president-elect of the D.C. Bar for the 2018-2019 term. Hoffman will assume office on June 12 and serve in that post for one year before becoming the Bar's 48th president in 2019. Created in 1972, the D.C. Bar is the second-largest unified bar in the United States, with approximately 100,000 members in all 50 states and more than 80 countries.

Washington – April 27, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP partner Carlton Greene, the former chief counsel for the Department of the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) and a member of the firm's International Trade and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement groups, today testified before the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit. The hearing concerned FinCEN's customer due diligence rule, also known as the CDD Rule, which covered financial institutions are required to begin implementing on May 11.

Freeman to its New York office as a senior counsel in the firm’s Environment & Natural Resources and Government Contracts groups. Freeman has more than 20 years of experience advising clients in the energy, aerospace and defense, and maritime industries on a range of matters involving enforcement defense, internal investigations, compliance, risk management, and litigation. One notable area of his practice involves advising clients on the federal Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) program. “Our strength as a national regulatory firm allows us to serve clients seamlessly across practice groups and industries,” said Philip T. Inglima, chair of Crowell & Moring. “Paul’s combined experience in environmental and government contracts law opens doors to serving existing and new clients and further deepens the bench strength of our acclaimed ENR and Government Contracts groups.” Freeman routinely advises clients in response to investigations by, or inquiries from, a range of regulators, including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Defense Inspector General, the FBI, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and state attorneys general. Freeman also counsels defense contractors on compliance with aspects of the Federal Acquisition Regulation, or FAR, including the mandatory disclosure rule, and routinely conducts internal investigations involving supply chain risks, ethics, quality systems, contract compliance, and potential false claims.

Washington – April 26, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP partner Ian A. Laird has co-authored a first-of-its-kind book that systematically explores the law of evidence in investor-state arbitration. “Evidence in International Investment Arbitration” is a guide for practitioners in investment arbitration disputes, while also offering academics a perspective on the practical elements affecting the treatment of evidence in the area. Laird, co-chair of the firm’s International Dispute Resolution Group, co-authored the book with Frédéric G. Sourgens, an associate law professor at Washburn University School of Law and Kabir Duggal, a senior associate at Baker & McKenzie LLP.
