Washington – July 17, 2019: Crowell & Moring has been named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother for the eighth consecutive year. The firm is among 60 firms recognized for using best practices to recruit, retain, promote and develop women lawyers.
“We are proud that Working Mother continues to recognize our strong commitment to advancing women lawyers,” said Ellen Moran Dwyer, chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. “We actively recruit, retain, and provide professional development opportunities to help our women lawyers rise to the highest levels of our profession.”
In a profile, Working Mother noted the firm’s Women’s Leadership Initiative, a cross-office organization dedicated to the recruitment, retention, professional development, and advancement of women lawyers. The initiative provides opportunities for the firm’s female lawyers to develop meaningful professional relationships with their peers, mentors, and sponsors. It also promotes professional development programming.
The profile highlights an event where the firm hosted more than 300 clients, lawyers, and staff to celebrate National Women’s History Month with a panel discussion focused on advancing women and diverse attorneys, and the importance of relationship-building with sponsors and mentors to achieve this goal.
The firm has a long history of women leadership. In 1995, the firm became the first major Washington-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later became a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Outside of Dwyer, the firm’s current female leaders include Management Board members Cheryl A. Falvey, Jennifer S. Romano, and Kirsten L. Nathanson.
Each year, Working Mother distributes an application that includes more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, schedule flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women. The full list of firms can be viewed here.
