Washington, D.C. – January 1, 2005: It is with great pleasure that Crowell & Moring LLP announces the election of three new partners, effective Jan. 1, 2005.
The new partners are Jerome A. Murphy, a member of the Litigation practice group; Elizabeth W. Newsom, a member of the Government Contracts practice group; and Tracy A. Roman, a member of the Litigation practice group. All newly elected partners work in the Washington, D.C., office.
"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the newest members of the partnership," C&M Chairman John Macleod said. "Their hard work, dedication and expertise will continue to be integral parts of the top-notch legal representation offered by Crowell & Moring."
- Mr. Murphy has a diverse commercial litigation and tort practice. He litigates putative class actions, multidistrict proceedings and other complex litigation nationwide. Among other high-profile matters, Mr. Murphy represented the estate and family members of a U.S. service member killed during a terrorist bombing in legal action filed against a foreign government. The case was brought in federal court under an exception to the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.
- Ms. Newsom's practice concentrates on bid protests and litigation in the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. From 1995 to 2001, she served as a trial attorney with the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, principally litigating contract disputes in the Court of Federal Claims and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
- Ms. Roman has extensive experience in litigating complex commercial disputes, class actions, and product liability cases in federal and state courts across the country. She represents clients in an array of industries, including the telecommunications, transportation, aviation and health care industries. Ms. Roman also has litigated a number of antitrust and securities cases. Representative cases include representing former Beirut hostages Terry Anderson and Tom Sutherland in lawsuits against the Islamic Republic of Iran and representing a client in litigation arising out of the 1998 crash of Swissair Flight 111.
