The New York Law Journal Names Partner Jennifer Grady a Distinguished Leader

Firm News | 2 min read | 10.14.21

New York – October 14, 2021: The New York Law Journal has recognized Jennifer K. Grady, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Corporate Group, as a 2021 “Distinguished Leader.” The award honors lawyers in leadership roles who have achieved impressive results in the past year. All of the winners were honored at the New York Legal Awards held on October 13 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.

Grady’s leadership roles distinguish her in many respects. She became managing partner at Richards, Kibbe & Orbe in 2014 and was among a handful of female managing partners in the nation. Grady was the first woman to hold that role at the firm, and is the first woman to co-chair the Corporate Group at Crowell & Moring. She not only led Kibbe & Orbe through the uncertainty and tremendous challenges of 2020, she spearheaded the combination of her storied Wall Street boutique with Crowell & Moring.

In an interview with the New York Law Journal Grady notes: “My proudest recent achievement is leading our team through the completion of a successful combination with Crowell & Moring. Like many businesses, Kibbe & Orbe faced a difficult and uncertain pandemic year. We had to work together to address challenge after challenge. I assembled a talented and supportive team to help me guide our partners through the difficulties we face in 2020 and the arduous process of selecting the right law firm combination partner. I’m grateful to so many for the assistance I received throughout this process and am excited to see our team fully integrated here and engaged in the process of growing our client relationships alongside our new partners.”

“The addition of Jennifer Grady and the team from Kibbe & Orbe is an extraordinary milestone in the history of Crowell & Moring’s New York office and our firm as a whole,” said Glen McGorty, managing partner of the New York office and a 2019 Distinguished Leader award recipient. “Jen could not be more deserving of this honor as, even in our brief time as colleagues, she has filled every moment with her thoughtfulness, ingenuity, and boundless kindness. Jen is a brilliant lawyer and a true leader – we are so lucky to have her on the team.”

Grady represents investment banks and buy-side clients in connection with the purchase and sale of U.S. and non-U.S. loans, bankruptcy claims and other distressed assets, as well as derivatives and financing transactions. Her derivatives practice focuses on the structuring and negotiation of credit derivative transactions in North America, Europe, and Asia, and she played a critical role in creating the loan credit default swap documentation, standards, and customs adopted by the entire secondary loan trading marketplace. Grady focuses on special situations investments involving complex assets containing derivative components or insolvency proceeding risk. She also regularly represents clients in connection with financing facilities secured by complex illiquid assets, including solar renewable energy credits, marketplace loans, and derivative instruments.
