Crowell & Moring Shortlisted for 2020 Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards in Four Categories

Washington – December 4, 2020: Crowell & Moring has been shortlisted for four Financial Times Innovative Lawyers North America awards, including “Most Innovative Law Firm in North America.” The firm will also be featured in the law firm leader category in the upcoming 2020 report.

“We are honored to be recognized by FT Innovative Lawyers as it explores how in-house departments and law firms collaborated to advance innovation and solve unprecedented challenges throughout this year,” said Philip T. Inglima, chair of Crowell & Moring.

The firm is nominated for:

  • Most innovative law firm in North America
  • Enabling business response to COVID-19: The firm is nominated for its multi-pronged effort to respond to client needs in the wake of the COVID-19, including launching a monitoring system to alert clients to federal and state orders and creating multi-disciplinary teams to meet the changing needs of clients as they navigated reopening and developed new products in response to the pandemic. The efforts included serving as lead counsel to General Motors in connection with the ventilator contract negotiations with the U.S. Government; serving as lead counsel to Honeywell as it negotiated with the government to produce N95 masks and develop new products in rapid response to the pandemic; and helping Siemens to monitor the rapidly-changing federal, state and local guidelines and requirements regarding essential business determinations and related environmental, safety, and health requirements.
  • The practice of law – multidisciplinary teams: Crowell & Moring’sDigital Health Practice is nominated for its work to help health care companies transform for the digital revolution when it mattered most.
  • Individual practitioner: Crowell & Moring partner Jodi G. Daniel is nominated for her leadership of the firm’s Digital Health Practice. Daniel leads teams that serve health care and technology clients navigating the dynamic regulatory environment health care sector technology. She is the former director of the Office of Policy in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  

In addition, the FT report will feature Crowell & Moring in a special category recognizing law firm leaders.

  • Law firm leader: Ellen Moran Dwyer, chair of Crowell & Moring’s executive committee and a member of the firm’s management board, will be recognized for her leadership in the report, which will focus on celebrating collaboration and diversity. A partner in the firm’s Labor & Employment Group, Dwyer also serves as chair of the board of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD).

The FT will hold the North American Innovative Lawyers awards at a live virtual event on December 10 and will publish its full report on December 11. The FT North America Innovative Lawyers report is published in conjunction with RSG Consulting, a specialist research and consulting company. The submissions are then scored against a ranking methodology devised for the FT to assess innovation in law firms.
