The Honorable James Rogan to Address Group Meeting to Discuss Global Antitrust Environment
Washington, D.C. – May 24, 2002: Crowell & Moring LLP and the American Bar Association's Litigation Section will be co-sponsoring a Roundtable discussion on the interface of antitrust and intellectual property at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on June 14, 2002. Newly sworn in Under Secretary of Commerce and Director of the Patent and Trademark Office, James Rogan, will be the featured luncheon speaker at the event. R. Hewitt Pate, Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Regulatory Matters at the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division, and Mary Coleman, Deputy Director, FTC Bureau of Economics, will participate in the discussion on antitrust and intellectual property enforcement trends. See attached schedule for additional list of speakers and topics
The roundtable is meant to bring together a small number of counsel from cutting-edge technology companies, government, academia and the outside bar for a one-day, focused dialogue. The program will be limited to 50 participants, and will be divided into four discussion sessions, including a luncheon with a keynote speaker. The format is meant to foster a frank exchange of views on the acquisition, management and enforcement of intellectual property rights in a global antitrust environment. Problems specific to the rapidly developing telecommunications, software and biotech industries, including settlements, standard-setting and access to courts, will also be considered in detail through the first-hand experience of the participants. All participants will have the opportunity to explore areas of interest in their particular sphere, and the day will conclude with a case study workshop that will highlight the considerations that may arise in the next decade of antitrust enforcement.
