New York – May 9, 2019: The New York City Bar Association has awarded Juan A. Arteaga, a partner in Crowell & Moring’s Antitrust and White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement groups, its 2019 Diversity & Inclusion Champion Award.
The association created the Diversity and Inclusion Award in 2006 to recognize leaders who have played a role in creating opportunities for traditionally underrepresented groups within their organizations and the overall New York legal community.
As co-chair of the firm’s Diversity Council and the New York office’s hiring partner, Arteaga plays a leading role in the firm’s efforts to recruit, retain, and promote women and diverse attorneys. He also plays a central role in the firm’s commitment to diversity pipeline initiatives through his volunteer work with Legal Outreach, a nonprofit organization with whom the firm has partnered in order to provide educational resources to youth in underserved New York City communities who wish to pursue a legal education. In addition, Arteaga has created a successful speaker series that enables the firm’s New York-based lawyers and employees to discuss important workplace topics, such as unconscious bias and strategies for ensuring that men in senior positions serve as effective mentors and sponsors for women in the #MeToo era.
Arteaga is a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division. His practice focuses primarily on advising companies, boards of directors, special committees, and executives on a broad range of civil and criminal antitrust matters, including litigation, merger reviews, and government and internal investigations. Arteaga also represents clients in a wide range of high-profile and complex commercial litigation, including securities litigation, shareholder derivative actions, class actions, and international arbitrations.
Along with Arteaga, Lisa Linsky, a partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, will also be presented with the award at the association’s Diversity and Inclusion Celebration Dinner on June 26 in New York.
“This year’s Champion Award recipients are true leaders in diversity and inclusion,” said Roger Juan Maldonado, President of the New York City Bar Association, in a recent press release. “Juan and Lisa’s contributions to the legal community have included work with civic organizations as well as extensive work within their own firms to increase opportunities for people of color and LGBTQ people.”
