Washington, D.C. – June 9, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to invite members of the media to attend the American Bar Association's June 13 event, "Cyber Warfare Law & Frontier Justice: What's the Law, Who's the Judge, and Where's the Authority?" A panel of cyber security thought leaders will address the torrent of legal and policy questions regarding authentication, intelligence gathering, counterstrike authority, and liability under domestic and international laws.
The event will begin at 12pm at Crowell & Moring's offices at 1001 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004. Lunch will be served.
Crowell & Moring Government Contracts Group partner David Z. Bodenheimer, who will moderate the event, said, "Cyber war brings one of the most dramatic shifts in the battlefield paradigm since the invention of gunpowder. Just as battlefield contracting has defined recent conventional military operations, the contractors will face an escalating role in supporting offensive cyber operations -- with emerging and potentially open-ended liability exposure under ill-defined law that was never meant to deal with cyber battles without boundaries or even readily identified adversaries."
Panelists include:
- Dr. Herbert S. Lin (Chief Scientist, Computer Science & Telecommunications Board, National Research Council of the National Academies & Study Director for Technology, Policy, Law, and Ethics regarding U.S. Acquisition and Use of Cyber attack Capabilities)
- Dr. Catherine Lotrionte (Executive Director, Institute for Law, Science and Global Security at Georgetown University and former Counsel to the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board at the White House)
- Suzanne Spaulding (Principal, Bingham Consulting Group and former General Counsel for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and Assistant General Counsel at CIA)
