Washington, D.C. – July 2, 2007: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that the firm is participating in the 2007 American Bar Association-U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Law Office Climate Challenge. In an effort to conserve energy and resources, as well as reduce emissions of greenhouse gases and other pollutants, the firm will undertake this important initiative designed by the ABA Section of Environment, Energy & Resources, in cooperation with the EPA.
"Crowell & Moring applauds both the American Bar Association and the EPA for developing this important initiative. We view environmental stewardship as both a business imperative and the right thing to do as a corporate citizen," said Steven P. Quarles, Crowell & Moring partner and co-chair of the firm's Environment & Natural Resource Group.
Crowell & Moring has already implemented a number of initiatives, such as using energy-saving lighting and increasing the use of office products with recycled content. To further the firm’s efforts, the following additional steps will be taken:
- Placing containers in conference rooms for glass, plastic and paper recycling.
- Eliminating or significantly reducing the use of styrofoam cups, plates, bowls and other tableware.
- Encouraging the use of such features as double-sided print and copy jobs to decrease the over-use of paper.
- Turning off all non-emergency lighting at the end of each business day.
- Increasing the awareness and use of our recycling program among all staff and attorneys
"Even a few simple changes can improve our environment. Each individual can make a difference. That is the message we want to communicate to our attorneys and staff as a goal of this project," said Frank Warno, Crowell & Moring's Director of Information Technology & Operations who is leading the firm's efforts on this important initiative.
