Washington, D.C. – February 10, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that its Government Contracts Group has been recognized as one of Law360’s “Practice Groups of the Year” for government contracts. This is the seventh consecutive year that the group has earned this honor. In this series, Law360 recognizes firms that achieve “victories in litigation and closed the big deals to make their mark among clients and throughout the legal industry.”
Law360’s profile on the firm notes Crowell & Moring’s deep roots in government contracts dating back to the firm’s founding in 1979, and the group’s clientele’s wide span of industries, including information technology, cybersecurity, health care, energy, private equity, telecommunications, construction and engineering, and professional services.
“We are honored by this recognition, which reflects both the depth and experience of the 60 government contracts lawyers that support our clients, as well as the excellent results that we have achieved for our clients in some of the most complex and sophisticated matters,” said Daniel R. Forman, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Government Contracts Group.
The publication highlighted the group’s recent success in SUFI Network Services Inc. v. U.S., a highly contested breach of contract litigation against the Air Force that lasted over a decade and resulted in a landmark $113 million judgment, plus interest, attorney’s fees, and expenses, for SUFI. Peter J. Eyre, co-chair of Crowell & Moring’s Government Contracts Group, said that the firm’s work in this case resulted in a “record-setting case that showcased our team’s ability to handle complex matters and recover money for our clients.”
The Law360 story also heralded Crowell & Moring’s work over nine years to secure a jury reversal in U.S. ex rel. Purcell v. MWI Corp., one of the longest-running False Claims Act qui tam suits, in which the Crowell & Moring team convinced the D.C. Circuit in 2015 to overturn a $22.5 million verdict for the government. The group also recently scored bid protest victories for AT&T Government Solutions (at the Government Accountability Office) and Enterprise Recovery Systems (at the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit). The group also handled government contract matters for Hewlett Packard when the technology giant split into two smaller companies in 2015.
