Crowell & Moring Promotes Five Attorneys to Senior Counsel

Washington, D.C. – September 1, 2014: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it has elevated five attorneys to senior counsel effective September 1, 2014. The new senior counsel have been promoted from within the ranks of the firm's Washington, D.C. and London offices and from a variety of practice areas. The newly promoted senior counsel are:
Andrew W. Bagley is based in Washington, D.C. and is a member of the Labor and Employment Group where he provides litigation and counseling services concerning a wide range of labor and employment matters. He is a veteran of more than 25 wage and hour class actions and is considered an authority on wage and hour laws and compliance. Bagley also devotes a significant part of his practice to non-competition and non-solicitation agreements and litigates and counsels employers concerning reductions in force, severance agreements, and discrimination issues. Bagley received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Duke University and his law degree from the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
Ashley Bailey resides in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the firm's White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement Group where she focuses her practice on white collar criminal defense and regulatory compliance matters. She represents individual and institutional clients through all phases of criminal litigation, including pre-indictment, trial, sentencing, appeal, and petition for pardon or clemency. Bailey also leads the firm's federal lobbying and campaign finance compliance practices. She graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University and received her law degree cum laude from Georgetown University Law Center. Ashley was recognized as a Washington, D.C. Super Lawyer in 2014 and as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2013.
Deborah Carpentier is a member of the firm's Energy Group. Based in Washington, D.C., Carpentier focuses her practice primarily on federal regulatory energy issues for electric utilities in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). She advises clients on compliance programs, NERC Reliability Standards, market-based rates and other regulatory approvals, market manipulation, and regulatory matters arising in generator operations and commercial transactions. Carpentier received her B.A. from the University of Maryland and her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School, with honors, where she served as executive managing editor of the George Washington Journal of International Law and Economics, was a member of the Moot Court Board, and was a Dean's Fellow.
Ellen MacDonald Farrell is based in the firm's Washington, D.C. office and is a member of the Insurance/Reinsurance Group, focusing on the litigation, arbitration, and negotiated resolutions of insurance and reinsurance disputes, as well as counseling on privacy and security issues. For more than fifteen years, she has represented some of the nation's largest insurers in high-stakes disputes involving the insurance industry. Her reinsurance work has included successfully advising companies and reinsurers on a wide range of reinsurance issues. Farrell graduated from Yale University magna cum laude and received her J.D. from the University of North Carolina law school with High Honors and as a member of Order of the Coif. She was also a staff member of the North Carolina Law Review.
Jane Wessel is based in the firm's London office and focuses her practice on international commercial arbitration, litigation, mediation, and other methods of dispute resolution. Wessel is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and a CEDR Accredited Mediator. She has appeared as counsel in arbitrations in the major international arbitration institutions in Europe, Asia, and North America. She has also developed a practice in bringing and defending competition damages claims arising from cartels in Europe, having brought one of the first cases of this kind in the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal. In 2011, she founded the firm's Hospitality Industry practice, pulling together the firm's expertise from across all practice areas. She received her B.A. from the University of Exeter in the UK and her J.D. from Loyola University of Chicago Law School.
