Crowell & Moring Adds Veteran DOJ Health Care Litigator Jeff McSorley

Firm News | 2 min read | 10.22.26

WASHINGTON, D.C. – October 22, 2026: Crowell & Moring has added Jeff McSorley as a partner in its industry-leading Health Care Group in Washington, D.C. McSorley joins the firm from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he served for the past decade as a senior trial counsel in the Civil Division’s Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section.

McSorley’s practice at Crowell will focus on health care litigation, including payor-provider disputes, as well as False Claims Act (FCA) investigations and defense. His experience includes analyzing medical claims and complex regulations, developing case strategy, taking and defending depositions, working with medical experts, and trying cases.

“Jeff’s record leading high-stakes health care investigations and litigation, combined with his first-chair trial experience and sound judgment, will bring immediate value to our clients,” said Martin J. Bishop, co-chair of Crowell’s Health Care Group.

“Jeff adds further depth to our health care litigation capabilities and will be a strong resource for clients navigating government enforcement actions, complex commercial disputes, and False Claims Act matters, particularly as the DOJ increases scrutiny on Medicare Advantage plans,” said Michael W. Lieberman, co-chair of Crowell’s Health Care Group.

McSorley is a first-chair trial lawyer and veteran federal prosecutor with 20 years of litigation experience. At DOJ, he led more than 70 FCA investigations, securing more than $500 million in recoveries for the United States. He has served as lead counsel in jury and bench trials, evidentiary hearings, and oral arguments involving complex commercial and regulatory issues.

“Crowell has built a powerhouse health care practice with exceptional strength in both regulatory matters and litigation,” McSorley said. “I look forward to working with the team to help managed care and other health care clients navigate high-stakes disputes and government investigations. Crowell’s robust, collaborative practice is an ideal fit for my trial and False Claims Act experience.”

Before joining DOJ in 2016, McSorley spent 12 years in private practice handling complex commercial litigation cases, including class action defense, antitrust, civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) litigation, and commercial contracts. McSorley earned his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and his B.S. in political science from Florida State University. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia and Virginia.
