Jeff McSorley

Overview

A proven first-chair trial lawyer and veteran federal prosecutor, Jeff has more than 20 years of experience conducting investigations and litigating complex commercial and regulatory disputes across the health care and government contracting industries. His practice focuses on health care litigation, including payor-provider disputes, False Claims Act (FCA) investigations and defense, and complex government enforcement matters.

Prior to joining Crowell, Jeff served for a decade as a Senior Trial Counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Division, Commercial Litigation Branch, Fraud Section. During his tenure at DOJ, he led more than 70 FCA investigations and secured more than $500 million in recoveries for the United States. His docket was concentrated in health care and procurement matters. He has first-chaired several trials  — including both jury and bench trials involving complex FCA issues — as well as evidentiary hearings and oral arguments involving complex commercial and regulatory issues.

McSorley's litigation experience encompasses analyzing complex medical claims and regulatory frameworks, developing case strategy, taking and defending depositions, and working with medical and other expert witnesses through all stages of litigation, including trial. His deep familiarity with DOJ enforcement practices and FCA procedures positions him to provide clients with informed, strategic counsel in government investigations and high-stakes civil disputes.

Prior to joining DOJ in 2016, McSorley spent 12 years in private practice, where he handled a broad range of complex commercial litigation matters, including class action defense, antitrust, civil Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) litigation, and commercial contracts.
