Crowell & Moring Celebrates Well-Being Week

Firm News | 2 min read | 05.01.20

Washington – May 1, 2020: Crowell & Moring’s Well-Being Committee plans to host a wide array of activities to celebrate Well-Being Week (May 4-8). The week kicks off with a “Walking Meeting Day” on Monday, May 4. A number of firm leaders have committed to “taking their internal meetings on the road.” As an added incentive to encourage exercise while working, participants will receive double points through the firm’s Healthy Living well-being program.

On Tuesday, mindfulness and meditation exercises will be offered to the entire firm. Wednesday will feature a Positive Leadership Panel to provide an opportunity for lawyers and staff to discuss how to create, promote, and sustain a positive work environment. Panelists will include Glen McGorty, managing partner of the firm’s New York Office and management board member; Dan Sasse, management board member; Addie Cliffe, Government Contracts Steering Committee member; Tracy Heflin, Director of Practice Support and IP Services; and Don Smith, Chief Talent and Inclusion Officer. The panel, which will be moderated by Chief Human Resources Officer Marguerite Eastwood, will engage with the firm-wide audience via videoconferencing to elaborate on how the initiatives they have implemented to develop a positive workplace culture.

On Thursday, the firm will launch two workplace challenges to foster a deeper sense of community. Challenge #1 is asking colleagues to connect verbally or by video with someone they have not spoken with since remote working began. Challenge #2 is to write a thank you email or letter to a colleague.
Finally, the week wraps up with a live webinar for the firm-wide community, Developing Resiliency to Meet Life’s Challenges. This webinar is designed to teach participants how resiliency in today’s workplace is a key component to success and productivity, and discuss its role in helping people successfully adapt to adversity. Crowell & Moring Chair Phil Inglima emphasizes that, “Fostering an environment that supports the well-being of our attorneys and professional staff is a top priority at Crowell & Moring. As a proud signatory of the ABA Well-Being Pledge, we are joining other firms in shedding light on the challenges attorneys and professional staff face, and identifying resources and best practices that can make a real difference. Our profession must commit to a meaningful dialogue about mental health and how to support it.”
