INTA Leadership Meeting
November 9 - 13, 2010
The 2010 Leadership Meeting is the ideal opportunity for INTA’s leaders to exchange ideas, conduct important business and network with colleagues from around the world. These leaders will plan the committee work and events for the coming year and lay the groundwork for INTA's future.
Intellectual property experts will also present advanced-level educational sessions from Wednesday to Saturday and provide attendees with valuable information on the latest developments in trademark law.
The Leadership Meeting is limited to INTA volunteers who currently are:
- Members of the Board of Directors
- Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs
- Subcommittee Chairs
- Committee Members
- Project Team Members
- Past Presidents and Counsel
Flip Petillion will speak during the "Goodwill Hunting: Using Fluid Trademarks to Enhance Your Brand" session.
To connect with consumers and invigorate their brands, brand owners such as Google, Perrier and Absolut have rejected the conventional wisdom that trademarks should be consistently presented in the same static format for an extended period of time. Instead, they embrace the new trend of fluid trademarks and employ dynamic marks that change frequently to communicate their brand message. Does that make a mark stronger or weaker? What are the risks involved with fluid trademarks and how can those risks be minimized?
Issues to be addressed are:
The marketing strategies behind this new trend;
- Using fluid trademarks to enhance, rather than destroy, trademark rights;
- Best practices for selecting, registering, using and enforcing fluid marks; and
- Tips on how to avoid abandonment of rights and infringing the intellectual property rights of others.
