We provide clients from outside the betting and gambling sector with advice on promotional contests and campaigns to ensure their compliance with the legal framework on betting and gambling.

    We also represent sports and media celebrities, film and television producers, record labels, music festivals, singer-songwriters, printed media companies, book publishers, advertising companies, and designers.

Representative Matters

  • Drafted and negotiated one of the first full mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) agreements in Belgium.
  • Represented an internet access provider in litigation that led to a landmark ruling by the Court of Justice of the EU on the issue of the exoneration from liability for online intermediaries with respect to copyright infringements committed by their subscribers.
  • Advised on mediation proceedings before the regulator BIPT/IBPT regarding a dispute on call termination tariffs.
  • Drafted and negotiated commercial agreements between a joint venture and the JV partners of a newly created joint video streaming platform.
  • Represented a multinational provider of online games before the Ethical Commission for Telecommunications for use of VAS (value-added service) numbers.
  • Advised a start-up company providing a CSR software platform on payments regulatory issues.
  • Advised a global e-commerce platform on competition law issues related to a payment card scheme’s practices, in particular with respect to the fees charged for transactions by third-party sellers.
  • Drafted, reviewed and negotiated service contracts for several global IT consultancy services providers, which relate to software, software services and (personal and non-personal) data.
  • Provided strategic advice for growth, including the protection of their immaterial assets through model contracts, for several digital startups (turned scaleups) in data analytics, IoT, AI-related activities and SaaS offerings.
  • Advised a large number of clients from the art sector on questions regarding NFT-platforms and opportunities, artist contracts, cancellations due to Covid-19 conditions, resale right issues, etc.
  • Assisted with the creation of a new non-profit entity established by five European associations that are active in big data, artificial intelligence and robotics.
  • Provided a trade association for public event-related industries with general legal advice and acted as a sounding board for its Executive Committee.
  • Represented well-known creative talents (such as TV presenters and radio hosts, movie directors, famous chefs, creative directors, DJs, etc.) in a wide variety of matters regarding exclusivity deals, line extensions, format rights, transfer of copyrights, optimization of royalty streams, book publishing agreements, etc.
  • Advised several national sports associations and committees on trademark-related questions, on the image rights of athletes’ and sportsmen, on sponsorship agreements, etc.
  • Advised the Federation of Music Festivals, as well as the companies behind several music festivals, on a variety of questions on among others royalty rates, privacy-compliant COVID-19 testing strategies, partnership agreements, etc.
