Emma K. Burton
Areas of Focus
Overview
Emma Burton is a partner in Crowell & Moring's Washington, D.C., office and a member of the firm's Antitrust and Competition and Litigation groups. Emma focuses her practice on helping clients recover what they are owed through negotiation, litigation, and the strategic pursuit of claims in large antitrust and tort settlements. She has developed substantial experience navigating every stage of class action settlement claims, from the prosecution of individual claims through distribution, including resolving the complex disputes that frequently arise throughout. That work routinely involves litigating and negotiating issues of allowable purchases, data sufficiency, jurisdictional questions, and the allocation of settlement funds to maximize client recoveries. Emma also counsels clients on whether opting out of a class to pursue business-driven solutions or direct action litigation is the more strategically and financially sound path to a greater recovery.
Emma earned her J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997, where she was a member of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. She received her undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1994.
