New York – December 12, 2024: Glen McGorty, managing partner of Crowell & Moring’s New York office and member of the management board, and Rosa Morales, counsel in the firm’s Antitrust and Competition Group, have been named to Crain’s New York Business’ 2024 list of Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting, & Law. As reported by Crain’s, the 101 honorees on the list possess the financial, strategic, and legal experience “to drive significant commercial activity in the region, shaping New York City’s business landscape and fostering enterprise growth.”

On February 22, 2023, United States Attorneys for the Southern and Eastern District of New York announced a new, nationwide United States Attorneys’ Offices Voluntary Self-Disclosure (“VSD”) Policy. The policy applies to all United States Attorney’s Offices and is effective immediately. The implementation of the policy follows Deputy Attorney General Monaco’s September 15, 2022 memorandum instructing each component of the Department of Justice that prosecutes corporate crime to review, or draft and publicly share its policies on corporate voluntary self-disclosure and Assistant Attorney General Kenneth A. Polite, Jr’s remarks on revisions to the Criminal Division’s Corporate Enforcement Policy. The VSD policy incentivizes companies to voluntarily disclose misconduct and offers significant benefits for timely disclosure.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced on April 19th the launch of the new Office of Promoter Investigations (OPI) aimed at enforcement against promoters of abusive tax transactions, such as syndicated conservation easements and micro-captive insurance schemes, and expanding on the work the promoter investigations coordinator has been pursuing for the past year. The new office is part of the IRS’s Small Business and Self-Employed Division (SB/SE) and will be led by acting director Lois Deitrich, an IRS exam official with over 20 years of experience. Although the office is housed within SB/SE, it will coordinate promoter investigations throughout all IRS business units, including Criminal Investigation and the Office of Fraud Enforcement.
