An ELI Public Webinar

Federal climate policy in the United States is undergoing significant turmoil. But what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic? The European Union continues to pursue policies that address climate change, including through reporting requirements and carbon trading and border taxes. European judges are also seeing more and more litigation related to these and other policies, meaning that court cases are increasingly playing a role in shaping the future direction of European climate policy.

Join an interdisciplinary panel of experts to learn about the state of climate science, climate policy, and climate litigation in Europe, as well as how those developments fit into the broader global landscape.

Topics may cover:
What is Europe doing to address climate change? Has that shifted in 2025?

What is the role of scientists and climate science in developing climate policy in Europe?

What are European countries doing to reduce emissions and adapt to climate impacts?

What types of court cases are arising because of climate change?

What is the role of litigation in shaping climate policy?

Panelists:
Dr. Maria Antonia Tigre, Director of Global Climate Change Litigation, Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, Columbia Law School, Moderator

Juge Gregg, Partner, Crowell & Moring

Dr. Matthias Keller, Presiding Judge, Aachen Administrative Court, Germany

Prof. Gerard van der Steenhoven, Special Advisor, Ministry of the Interior, The Netherlands; Professor, University of Twente

State legislatures are also racing to implement their own regulations, particularly around AI’s use in critical areas, such as healthcare, labor and employment, and data privacy. The many sources of regulation raise the specter of a fragmented compliance environment for businesses. This webinar will delve into the Administration’s AI strategy, going beyond the headlines to analyze:...
