State Attorneys General - District of Columbia Karl A. Racine and the state of Georgia Christopher M. Carr will provide Perspectives on Hate in America

Webinar | 02.17.21, 7:00 AM EST - 8:00 AM EST

Hate crime murders in the United States rose to their highest level in more than a decade last year, according to a recent FBI report. Events like the terrorist attack in El Paso where a gunman motivated by hatred for Latinos killed 23 people have brought the divisive issue of hate to the American center stage. In this moderated discussion, we will explore the impact that hate—whether murder or speech—has had on American lives and how horrific acts of hate have reverberated around the globe. What does this mean for our democracy? What does this mean at the state level?

AG Karl Racine (Democrat) serves as the District of Columbia’s first elected Attorney General and in December 2020 was sworn in as President of the National Association of Attorneys General. AG Christopher Carr (Republican) serves as the state of Georgia’s 54th Attorney General. We will gather insights from attorneys general from both political parties on where our nation is headed and what can be done to heal and heed the words of our Constitution: “(to) form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare.”

Participants will gain an understanding of how hate incidents and hate groups are affecting state governments and what is being done to restore unity.
