ESG and Insurers: Understanding the Current Landscape and the Risks Ahead
Webinar | 09.13.22, 8:00 AM EDT - 9:00 AM EDT
ESG is a major challenge for insurers. All businesses are being called upon to reevaluate their products and purpose, including their role as employers of diverse, engaged workforces. Plaintiffs’ counsel have already begun to take advantage of changing regulatory and consumer expectations, and ESG-related claims are being pursued in the courts over a wide range of issues. Not only are insurers figuring out how to help others manage these risks, they’re also trying to determine the many ways ESG affects them.
Many carriers are already taking action, preparing their claims teams to oversee the defense of ESG-related litigation against policyholders and assessing how these emerging claims will impact their coverage obligations. Insurers also are changing their underwriting and investment standards according to ESG principles.
Join us for this webinar as our panel of environmental, advertising, labor and employment, trade and white collar attorneys discuss the growing tide of ESG-related litigation risk, how these claims are being defended, and what the emerging theories of liability mean for the insurance sector.
Topics will include:
- Litigation Risk from Environmental Impact and Climate Disclosures
- Class Action and Product Liability Claims Stemming from Advertising and Greenwashing Allegations
- Exposures Associated With Racial Equity and Civil Rights
- How Forced Labor and Supply Chain Laws Are Fueling Litigation

The landscape of AI governance and regulation is shifting. But that does not tell the entire story. The Administration remains committed to exercising a heavy hand in AI, including by banning the U.S. government’s procurement of so-called “woke AI,” intervening in the development of data centers and the export of the AI technology stack, imposing an export fee for certain semiconductors to China, and assuming a stake in a U.S. semiconductor company. State legislatures are also racing to implement their own regulations, particularly around AI’s use in critical areas, such as healthcare, labor and employment, and data privacy. The many sources of regulation raise the specter of a fragmented compliance environment for businesses. This webinar will delve into the Administration’s AI strategy, going beyond the headlines to analyze:
