Firm News | 2 min read | 11.06.19

Washington – November 6, 2019: WomenInc. Magazine named Crowell & Moring to its “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” list. The list, published in the magazine’s 2019 fall issue, recognized law firms that showed their “inclusive, equitable and sincere commitment to advancing opportunities for women.”

Firms named to the “Top 100 Law Firms for Women” list were selected based on survey data and criteria such as: hiring and retaining women attorneys, promoting women attorneys into equity partnership ranks, and providing leadership positions to women attorneys. Firms listed also showcased appealing benefits and work-life balance policies, as well as a range of training programs focused on the development and retention of women attorneys.

Crowell & Moring demonstrates commitment to women in the legal profession through its Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI), a cross-office group dedicated to the recruitment, retention, professional development, and advancement of female lawyers. WLI provides opportunities for women attorneys to develop meaningful professional relationships with their peers, as well as mentors and sponsors. It also promotes professional development programming.

The firm has a long history of women leadership. In 1995, it became the first major Washington-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later became a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Ellen Moran Dwyer currently serves as chair of the firm’s Executive Committee. Other female leaders include Management Board members Cheryl A. Falvey, Jennifer S. Romano, and Kirsten L. Nathanson. The firm has also been named one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother for eight consecutive years.
