Brussels – April 26, 2017: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it has named Thomas De Meese as co-managing partner of the firm’s Brussels office. De Meese joins Kristof Roox in this role. De Meese is a partner in the firm’s Antitrust and EU Regulatory Groups, while Roox is a partner in the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Group. Both are qualified lawyers in Belgium.
“We are very pleased Thomas will be joining Kristof’s leadership of the Brussels office,” Crowell & Moring chair Angela B. Styles said. “Our Brussels lawyers provide a range of litigation, transactional, counseling, arbitration, and regulatory capabilities. We are particularly well known for our antitrust and IP capabilities in Brussels, and Thomas and Kristof’s shared leadership will help us further leverage those strengths and enable us to better serve our clients.”
“I am thrilled to have Thomas join me as co-managing partner of our Brussels office,” Roox said. “The moment is right to expand our leadership in Brussels so we are poised to compete in this incredibly dynamic legal environment.”
De Meese, a member of the Brussels bar since 1993, focuses his practice on competition, TMT (telecommunications, media and technology), and gambling regulatory matters. He represents complainants and defendants in competition and merger investigations with both the Belgian Competition Authority and the European Commission. De Meese also regularly litigates competition cases before national courts.
“I feel very fortunate that Kristof and I have the opportunity to leverage our technology, regulatory and IP experiences to better service our clients both in Europe and around the world,” De Meese said. “The Brussels office is well positioned to serve our clients, and I am eager to work with Kristof to further establish our presence in Europe.”
Roox focuses his practice on complex patent litigation in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. He has been involved in a number of cases concerning parallel litigation in several jurisdictions and European cross-border issues. He further advises on many aspects of intellectual property portfolio management, including licensing, protection of trade and domain names, trade secrets, combating counterfeiting and piracy, broadcasting and cable retransmission, technology transfer and strategic IP planning. He has also extensive experience in media law issues.
The Brussels office opened in 1999 and has grown to more than 25 lawyers today. Several of its lawyers are recognized in Legal 500 EMEA, Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Managing IP Magazine, and other legal publications.
