New York – May 16, 2022: The Tahirih Justice Center awarded Crowell & Moring associate Brian McGrath with the Atlanta Pro Bono of the Year award in recognition of his dedication and commitment in supporting immigrant survivors fleeing violence. The award was presented at the organization’s 25th anniversary gala, “Journey to Justice: Progress & Perseverance,” on May 13 in Washington, D.C.
Through his work with the Tahirih Justice Center, McGrath has helped numerous women fleeing violence in gaining asylum, representing them at all stages of the immigration process, from BIA Appeals to their individual hearings.
According to the organization’s mission statement, the Tahirih Justice Center is a national, nonprofit organization that serves immigrant survivors fleeing gender-based violence. Crowell & Moring has partnered with Tahirih since its founding in 1997 to provide legal services to immigrant survivors.
A former educator, McGrath’s work focuses on a range of trade issues including compliance with U.S. economic sanctions, export controls and antiboycott regimes, the Bank Secrecy Act and anti-money laundering laws and regulations. Since joining the firm in 2018, McGrath has had the opportunity to take on significant pro bono projects, representing clients across a variety of practice areas, including immigration proceedings, veterans’ benefits appeals, FOIL litigation, and securing OFAC and BIS licenses for a U.S. non-profit to undertake multi-drug resistant tuberculosis treatment in North Korea.
