Washington, D.C. – November 29, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Monica G. Parham, who serves as the firm’s Diversity Counsel, was recently inducted as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing justice through rigorous research of the law, legal practices, and the law's impact on society.
Established in 1955, the Fellows is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars who have been elected by their peers to become members of the Fellows. They have demonstrated outstanding achievements and dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Membership in the Fellows is limited to one third of one percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Members are nominated by Fellows in their jurisdiction and elected by the Board of the American Bar Foundation.
With full-time responsibility for coordinating the firm's diversity initiatives, Parham works closely with the firm's Diversity Council, and Recruiting and Lawyer Development Committees, to address and enhance the firm's recruitment, retention and promotion of attorneys from groups traditionally underrepresented in the legal profession. She is also an active speaker and leader in the community. Earlier this year, Parham was inducted as president of the Women's Bar Association of the District of Columbia (WBA) and invited to speak on diversity challenges at the ABA International Law Leadership Retreat, and at Catholic University School of Law.
