Firm Ranked #13 in 251-600 Attorneys Size Category
Washington – September 4, 2020: Crowell & Moring was ranked among the top 15 firms in its size category in Law360’s 2020 Diversity Snapshot, an annual report that tracks U.S. firms’ racial and ethnic minority representation among its lawyers.
Law360 collected demographic data from more than 300 U.S. firms, or firms with a U.S. component, on their attorneys by head count as of December 31, 2019, representing more than 117,000 attorneys, including more than 50,000 partners. Only U.S.-based attorneys were included in the survey, and firms needed to have at least 20 U.S.-based attorneys to participate. The firm ranked 13th among firms with 251 to 600 attorneys, placing it in the top 15 for the third consecutive year.
Crowell & Moring has further demonstrated its commitment to diversifying its ranks through various efforts. Last year, the firm tapped Don Smith to serve as the firm’s first Chief Talent & Inclusion Officer to lead the firm’s lawyer recruiting, professional development, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. And it announced last year that it had achieved Mansfield 2.0 Certification status for 2019. The Mansfield Rule 2.0 measured whether law firms affirmatively considered women, lawyers of color, and LGBTQ+ lawyers — at least 30 percent of the candidate pool — for significant leadership and governance roles in the firm (for example, practice group leaders and management board) as well as promotions to equity partner, client pitches, and senior-level lateral hiring. In response to the recent heightened awareness sweeping the globe around racial injustice, the firm established a Racial Equity Task Force, composed of management board members, senior firm leaders, and members of the firm’s diversity affinity groups. The purpose of this task force is to further advance racial equity by identifying near-term actions and long-term goals that can reshape and reside permanently in Crowell & Moring’s principal structures and practices. These efforts focus on all aspects of the firm’s business.
