IP Law & Business Selects Kathryn L. Clune As "Top 50 Under 45" Intellectual Property Lawyer

Washington, D.C. - May 27, 2008: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that IP Law & Business has recognized partner Kathryn L. Clune, 40, in the magazine's first-ever "Top 50 IP People Under 45" exclusive list. From a pool of almost 250 nominations, Clune was chosen for her intellectual property trial experience and Section 337 work at the International Trade Commission. IP Law & Business is written for the intellectual property community and provides attorneys and general counsel with a comprehensive analysis of intellectual property law.

The list, published in the May 2008 issue of the magazine, provides the following editorial write-up on Clune, "Six years as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps, trying cases up to murder, landed Katie Clune in her current line of work. When Clune was working as an associate at Dorsey & Whitney, an IP partner needed a lawyer with trial experience and was willing to teach her the ropes. Learn she did. Clune has won all ten patent cases she has handled so far (two more are pending) for longstanding client Arlington Industries, a developer of electrical and communications products. Last year she moved to Crowell & Moring from Greenberg Traurig to build her international trade commission practice. Washington, D.C.-based Clune represents Sprint Nextel Corp. in the Broadcom Corp. v. Qualcomm Inc. brawl at the ITC."

With over 15 years of litigation experience, Clune is a partner in the firm's Intellectual Property Group and specializes in the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including patent and trademark litigation. She represents clients, from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal, from a variety of industries, including electrical fittings, consumer products, flooring, diagnostic biotechnology products, food and beverage, telecommunications and information technology. She has significant experience in litigation risk management counseling, and negotiates the purchase, sale, and licensing of technology. In addition, Clune is also a seasoned appellate advocate, having argued numerous cases in federal appellate courts, resulting in 15 published opinions.

During her time in the JAG Corps, Clune was widely known for her successful defense of a Marine aviator in the internationally-publicized so-called "Aviano" case, which involved a General Court Martial on 20 counts of involuntary manslaughter arising from an accident with a gondola cable in Northern Italy.
