Washington – December 18, 2023: Global Competition Review recognized Crowell & Moring’s Antitrust & Competition Group in its GCR 100 2024 – the leading ranking of the world’s competition law and economics practices. This year marks the 24th edition of the rankings and the 17th consecutive year that Crowell’s Antitrust & Competition Group has been recognized.
In New York, the firm received a ranking of Highly Recommended, with the leadership of Olivier Antoine and Juan Arteaga noted. The firm’s representation of CSX in two consolidated multidistrict litigations was acknowledged, as well as the firm’s work advising Samsung and Mozilla in relation to federal investigations of Google. GCR also noted the firm’s work advising AT&T on its $43 billion sale of WarnerMedia to Discovery, which received global unconditional clearance.
In Washington, GCR spotlighted multiple efforts, including defending Raytheon Technologies and Geisinger Health in separate no-poach class actions; and negotiating conditional merger clearances for JAB Consumer Partners and National Veterinary Associates in their joint acquisitions of SAGE Veterinary Centers and Ethos Veterinary Health. Crowell’s Washington D.C. team, led by group co-chair Shawn Johnson, also represents Humana as it responds to the FTC’s Section 6(b) study of pharmaceutical benefit managers and a lawsuit brought by the state of Ohio alleging a conspiracy to raise administrative fees with group purchasing organizations.
In California, under the leadership of Jason Murray, Crowell’s competition practice won the dismissal of federal antitrust claims against client Cardinal Health and other drug distributors alleged to have facilitated a conspiracy among generic pharmaceutical manufacturers to fix prices and allocate customers across over 100 different drugs. Crowell also helped surfing machine manufacturer WhiteWater Industries beat allegations at trial that it illegally monopolized the market. Additionally, the firm successfully defended Marriott International in a conspiracy claim brought by TravelPass. Five days into a seven-day jury trial, the claimant withdrew its claims and issued a rare formal public apology.
In Belgium, steered by partners Thomas De Meese and Karel Bourgeois, the practice acted for Telenet in its application for an interim injunction against a joint venture between rivals Proximus and Orange. Furthermore, the team represented the Federation of Music Festivals in Flanders in its complaint against the Belgian Association of Authors Composers and Publishers. The firm also represented IPM and Ads & Data in their appeal against the BCA’s decision to clear the acquisition of RTL Belgium by Rossel and DPG Media.
