Washington, D.C. – October 3, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of the California Minority Counsel Program's (CMCP) Drucilla Stender Ramey Law Firm Award, which will be presented to the firm at an awards luncheon on October 6 as part of CMCP's 22nd Annual Business Conference at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The award honors the CMCP majority-owned law firm member that has demonstrated the strongest commitment to diversity, based on minority attorneys in partnership, leadership and other special roles within the law firm, and community service.
"We are extremely grateful to be honored with this award and for the recognition of our work in promoting attorneys of all backgrounds," said M. Kay Martin, a partner in Crowell & Moring's San Francisco office and co-chair of the firm's Diversity Council. "Crowell & Moring reflects the rich fabric of diversity that runs throughout California and recognizes that legal experience does not always look the same and come from the same environment. We believe that our ability to embrace the differences and uniqueness of each attorney and staff member makes us a stronger firm overall."
"Crowell & Moring recognizes that commitment to diversity begins in law school and continues through associate training, up into partnership and the management ranks, and ultimately flows back from the firm through community outreach," said Crowell & Moring diversity counsel Monica G. Parham. "It is this continuum of support and strong dedication to inclusiveness that is reflected not only in our offices in California, but firmwide, and it truly sets us apart."
In addition to this most recent honor, the firm is frequently recognized for its diversity efforts. In 2010, the firm received its fourth DuPont Challenge Award for, among other things, sustained and increased diversity efforts. Earlier the same year, it ranked among Multicultural Law Magazine's "Top 100 Firms for Diversity." The firm has also been recognized among Women 3.0 magazine's "Top 100 Law Firms for Women" and has been ranked by Vault.com as one of the top 20 firms in the nation on issues of concern to GLBT and women lawyers. The firm received a 100 percent ranking on the 2010 Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, and has received other honors.
The California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) seeks to promote and sustain diversity and inclusion in California's legal profession by developing professional opportunities for attorneys of color and providing business, legal, and lay communities access to their talent.
