Washington, D.C. – February 4, 2011: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that partner Tom O'Donnell, a Washington, D.C.-based member of the firm's Public Policy Group, will become Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC). A former senior official at two White House economic policy councils under President Bill Clinton, O'Donnell has been working on public policy and international relations matters for nearly 20 years.
From 1993 to 1997, O'Donnell served first as Chief of Staff of the President's Council of Economic Advisers and then as Chief of Staff of the White House National Economic Council, which coordinates domestic and international economic policy for the Administration. He also served as a member of the economic policy teams for the Clinton and Obama Presidential Transitions.
In a news release issued by Hagan's office, Sen. Hagan stated, "I am very excited to bring Tom on board. He will be a strong leader for the Hagan team, as together we work to serve the people of North Carolina. With Tom, I will continue to make constituent service a hallmark of my office."
"Tom's time in the Clinton White House as Chief of Staff for the National Economic Council will be incredibly valuable as we work to improve the economic climate in North Carolina. His experience will also be key to my new appointment to the Senate Banking Committee."
Prior to his role as a Crowell & Moring partner, O'Donnell was Managing Director of the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles in 2000, Senior Consultant for the 2004 convention in Boston, and Senior Advisor in Denver in 2008.
