The addition of more than a dozen attorneys further broadens and deepens the firm's IP capabilities

Washington, D.C. – October 1, 2003: It has been just over two years since Crowell & Moring brought on 17 patent lawyers from the recognized intellectual property boutique, Evenson, McKeown, Edwards & Lenahan. Since then, the firm has steadily grown its IP capability, adding 20 more lawyers in its Washington, DC, California and European offices. Ten have joined in the last six months alone, including:

Richard Jordan - Washington, DC, Counsel, patent specialist (from Shook, Hardy & Bacon)
Mark Neblett - Washington, DC Counsel, (from Kenyon & Kenyon)
Lawrence Carter - Washington, DC, Associate, patent specialist (from Fenwick & West)
William Sauers - Washington, DC Associate, trademark specialist (from USPTO)
Scott Feldmann - California, Counsel, patent litigator (from Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison)
George Fountain - California, Counsel, patent specialist (from Blakeley Sokoloff)
Dennis Gallagher - California, Associate, patent litigator (from O'Melveny & Myers)
Christopher McWhinney - Associate, (from Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering)
Alison Crofts - London, Counsel, patent litigator (from Jones Day)

In addition to the three lawyers who have recently joined the firm's California office, Bob Grabarek, a Counsel who specializes in patent prosecution and litigation, has relocated from the firm's Washington, DC, office to California to help cement and further the integration of the firm's growing IP capability in that office. By expanding its IP practice incrementally and deliberately, the firm has positively augmented and enhanced its increasing strength in the IP arena. The firm continues to integrate its world-class patent practice with its high profile litigation practice, providing added value to Crowell & Moring's sophisticated client base.

According to John Macleod, Chairman of Crowell & Moring, "Our patent prosecution and growing patent litigation practices are extremely dynamic, reflecting the extent to which our very savvy clients are moving to protect their critically important intellectual property assets. We now have strong IP capabilities in all of our offices, as we must."

Gary Edwards, Chair of the Intellectual Property practice, further observed, "We are extremely pleased with the caliber of the new lawyers that we have been able to attract since we joined Crowell & Moring. "

Of the 20 IP attorneys that the firm has recruited, Edwards noted, most have advanced degrees, and five have doctorates. The firm believes that these highly qualified individuals will provide a solid base for future growth of its intellectual property practice in both the litigation and patent procurement fields. "One of the reasons that we joined forces with Crowell & Moring two years ago," Edwards pointed out, "was our expectation that the firm's strong reputation and prestige would help us to recruit top quality lawyers, and that hope has been fulfilled magnificently."

Crowell & Moring LLP is an international law firm with nearly 300 attorneys in Washington, DC, Southern California, London and Brussels. The firm is committed to providing the highest caliber of legal services, while solving legal problems and providing business solutions, in the most effective and cost efficient way.
