Crowell & Moring's Gregory D. Call Named to National Law Journal's Litigation Trailblazers List

Washington, D.C. – December 14, 2015: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that Gregory D. Call, San Francisco-based partner and chair of the firm's Commercial Litigation Group, has been named to the National Law Journal's second annual Litigation "Trailblazers" list. The list features 50 attorneys nationwide who have made significant and innovative impacts over their careers in the litigation arena. The honorees showed "a deep passion and perseverance in pursuit of their remarkable successes along the way."

The publication recognized Call's innovative approach to litigating cases for his clients, noting that his interest lies in "taking all the facts of a case and organizing them in a way that works for the client. To help, he co-developed a three-step system called the Goals, Strategies, and Tactics (GST) model ... which enables a partnership with clients to make decisions about what steps to take or not to take." Call successfully applied this model in representing 14 California cities and agencies involved in the Orange County, California bankruptcy with claims against Merrill Lynch. Using the GST approach, he was able to obtain a favorable appellate ruling for his clients and eventually settled for $32.5 million, enabling the cities to recover more than their actual damages.

Looking ahead, Call noted the importance of lawyers learning more about electronic discovery, and boiling it down to persuade judges and juries. "We still need to organize that into a succinct set of relevant information. It's hard to do that with so many documents to consider," Call said.
