Washington, D.C. – September 20, 2013: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that the firm was among the recipients of the National Legal Aid & Defender Association's (NLADA) 2013 "Beacon of Justice" Award, which was presented on September 19 at the NLADA Exemplar award dinner in Washington, D.C. The 17 law firms honored devoted considerable time and resources to delivering on the mandate of Gideon v. Wainwright, which 50 years ago established the right to counsel for people accused of a crime and facing a loss of liberty.
According to NLADA, Crowell & Moring was selected because of its investment of time and resources in partnerships that expand access to counsel for people unable to afford it.

For more than 100 years, NLADA has pioneered access to justice at the national, state and local level through the creation of our public defender system, development of nationally applicable standards for legal representation, groundbreaking legal legislation and the creation of important institutions such as the Legal Services Corporation.
