Washington, D.C. – November 7, 2013: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that it was awarded with the Domestic Violence Legal Empowerment and Appeals Project's (DV Leap) "Leap for Justice: Firm of the Decade" honor at the organization's 10th anniversary celebration on November 7.
According to the organization, Crowell & Moring received the honor for the remarkable efforts that the firm has made on behalf of survivors of domestic violence and their children. The firm has handled several DV Leap pro bono appeals, both locally and elsewhere in the country, including one of DV LEAP's earliest major victories on behalf of an abused woman who was re-victimized by the court's entry of a protective order against herfor provoking the abuser's violence, which was ultimately reversed by the D.C. Court of Appeals. This case established a powerful precedent against future judicial victim-blaming.
DV LEAP provides a stronger voice for justice by fighting to overturn unjust trial court outcomes, advancing legal protections for victims of domestic violence and their children through expert appellate advocacy, training lawyers, psychologists and judges on best practices, and spearheading domestic violence litigation in the Supreme Court.
