Crowell & Moring Ranked #28 on American Lawyer’s 2018 ‘Pro Bono Scorecard’

Firm News | 2 min read | 07.05.18

Washington – July 5, 2018: Crowell & Moring LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has been ranked #28 on The American Lawyer’s 2018 “Pro Bono Scorecard.” The annual scorecard ranks the AmLaw 200 firms by their pro bono score for work performed by U.S.-based lawyers.

The American Lawyer defines pro bono work as legal services donated to organizations or individuals that could not otherwise afford them. Half of a firm’s pro bono score comes from the average number of pro bono hours per lawyer in 2017, while the other half represents the percentage of lawyers who performed more than 20 hours of pro bono work.

In 2017, Crowell & Moring U.S.-based lawyers performed nearly 40,000 hours of pro bono work on a wide range of matters, including asylum and other immigration matters including work on behalf of immigrant children; police misconduct cases; bringing life-saving medical treatment to North Korea to treat multiple-drug-resistant tuberculosis; Voting Rights Act litigation in Georgia and Alabama; representation of several death row inmates and poverty law cases, such as eviction defense and child custody litigation.

Crowell & Moring has placed in the top 40 in American Lawyer’s pro bono rankings since 2010, and in the top 30 the past two years.

The current AmLaw ranking comes on the heels of the firm’s fifth-place ranking in Vault Associate’s Pro Bono category, and the firm’s top-20 placement in Chambers Associate’s “Best Firms for Pro Bono” category. The complete AmLaw scorecard rankings and additional information can be found here.
