Washington – July 8, 2021: Working Mother magazine has named Crowell & Moring one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” for the tenth consecutive year. The firm is ranked among 50 firms across the nation for its ability to recruit, retain, promote, and develop women lawyers. In addition, the firm’s achievements earned it a designation in Working Mother’s Hall of Fame.
Each year, Working Mother distributes an application that includes more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, schedule flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women. This year, in light of COVID-19, several questions were added about the success of working from home for lawyers.
“We are proud to be in Working Mother’s Hall of Fame, and to be recognized once again for our strong commitment to build and retain a truly diverse community of legal professionals,” said Don Smith, the firm’s Chief Talent & Inclusion Officer. “While we know there is much work to be done in the way of true equity, we will continue to actively recruit, and attempt to retain, and provide professional development opportunities to help advance our women lawyers to the highest levels of our profession.”
Crowell & Moring has a long history of women leadership. In 1995, the firm became the first major Washington-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later became a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The firm’s current management board includes Ellen Moran Dwyer, chair of the firm’s executive committee, and fellow board members, Kirsten L. Nathanson, co-chair of the firm's Environment & Natural Resources Group, and Chahira Solh, head of Crowell & Moring's Orange County office. In addition, Crowell & Moring’s Women’s Leadership Initiative – a network for all of the firm’s women-identifying lawyers – provides a number of opportunities for education and allyship engagement across the firm.
