Crowell & Moring Hosts International Business Workshop with All India Federation of Tax Practitioners

Washington, D.C. – June 22, 2007: As recently reported in the Hindustan Times, Crowell & Moring LLP hosted an international business workshop with the All India Federation of Tax Practitioners (AIFTP) in Washington, D.C. on May 23, 2007. The workshop addressed key issues for international companies doing business in the United States. Considered one of the largest and most prominent organizations of tax professionals in India, the AIFTP includes lawyers and accountants among its members.
At the workshop, Crowell & Moring’s Tax, Antitrust, International Trade, and International Arbitration groups presented to the AIFTP audience. Additionally, presentations were given by Doral Cooper, president of C&M International (an international trade and investment consulting firm affiliated with Crowell & Moring LLP) and a former Assistant U.S. Trade Representative and lead trade agreement negotiator with oversight responsibility for India and other countries; Beth Nolan, former White House Counsel to President Bill Clinton and Crowell & Moring partner; and Karen Hastie Williams, a retired Crowell & Moring partner who was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as Public Life Member of the Internal Revenue Oversight Board from 2000-2003.
The Crowell & Moring panels provided practical tips and training on legal issues of importance to Indian companies doing business in the United States, and also discussed a variety of political and business issues arising from the U.S.-India bilateral relationship.
AIFTP also made presentations on a variety of issues arising from the growing business and legal partnership between India and the United States, including issues regarding outsourcing. The AIFTP speakers included Senior Advocate of the Allahabad High Court and former chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council, Bharatji Agrawal.
