Washington, D.C. - November 18, 2009: Crowell & Moring LLP and the firm's managing partner, Ellen M. Dwyer, have received the "Champion for Diversity in Law Award" from Legal Momentum, a highly regarded women's legal defense and education fund. The organization recognized Crowell & Moring its commitment to women's rights at the 31st Annual Equal Opportunity Awards Dinner held in New York City and commended Dwyer for her leadership in the firm's pro bono efforts benefiting women and minorities. This year's recipients also included Nordstrom Inc., the Nordstrom Family.
Legal Momentum's Equal Opportunity Awards celebrate corporate leadership on behalf of women and girls by paying tribute to corporations and individuals who are serving as industry leaders in the promotion of women, families and diversity. During the past 10 years, more than 40 Crowell & Moring attorneys have worked alongside Legal Momentum to represent women and children on a range of cases and issues, including on immigration, domestic violence, custody, and family law issues.
"When Crowell & Moring first began our work with Legal Momentum, we took on pro bono matters on issues ranging from immigration to domestic violence and family law. We hoped to make a difference in the lives of women and their children in need. And, although we came to the group looking to make an impact on our clients' lives, we could never have expected the profound impact they would have on our own," said Dwyer.
Founded in 1970, Legal Momentum, the women's legal defense and education fund, is dedicated to advancing the rights and personal and economic security of all women and girls.
