Washington, D.C. – June 2, 2004: Continuing the expansion of its intellectual property practice, international law firm Crowell & Moring LLP has added two partners to its more than 40-lawyer roster of IP lawyers. Michael J. Songer, a former partner at Arnold & Porter LLP, and Mark M. Supko, a former partner at IP boutique Kenyon & Kenyon, have joined the firm in its Washington, DC office.

The addition of IP litigators Songer and Supko illustrates C&M’s ongoing commitment to building and broadening its intellectual property practice across all of its offices. The firm has steadily fortified its IP practice both in the U.S. and Europe beginning with the addition of 17 IP lawyers in 2001 and, most recently, by adding more than 10 IP lawyers within the past year.

“Our intellectual property and technology practices offer our clients a unique combination of extensive business savvy and industry knowledge together with solid trial experience in the patent area,” said firm chairman John Macleod. “Mike and Mark have strong, successful records in patent and trademark litigation. They’ll infuse our practice with additional sophisticated technology expertise, particularly in the computer software industry and in Internet issues. We look forward to supporting our clients in their IP-related business challenges with our broadened capabilities in the area of patent and trademark litigation.”

Songer focuses his practice on patent and trademark litigation, specifically in the areas of entertainment computer software, handheld personal digital assistants, computer graphics, digital signal processors, aircraft avionics and environmental systems. He is uniquely well-versed in Internet-related issues such as cyber-squatting, domain name infringement, spam e-mail violations and internet service provider (ISP) liability. After earning a BSME from the University of Notre Dame, Songer received his JD from Duke University. He is an adjunct law professor at Georgetown University, where he teaches courses such as “The Law of Cyberspace.”

Supko’s practice is centered on patent litigation, primarily in the area of computer, electrical and mechanical arts with a particular emphasis on computer networking, Internet applications and business methodologies. His cases have involved disputes over issues as diverse as paperless couponing and medical devices. Supko’s litigation experience has been concentrated primarily in the computer software industry, with particular emphasis on applications software relating to voice-response telephony and financial services. He also has extensive experience with licensing and transactions. A cum laude graduate of the University of Scranton, Supko earned his JD from Georgetown University, where he was a Law Fellow for Legal Research and Writing.
