Washington – June 26, 2025: Crowell & Moring hosted its 26thannual George Bailey Public Service Awards ceremony. Named after the hero of the classic movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” these awards recognize the firm’s lawyers and staff who have made a substantial impact on the lives of others through their pro bono efforts.
“One way that we can matter to our community is through giving back to others through pro bono work and volunteer efforts,” said Susan M. Hoffman, the firm’s Public Service senior counsel, speaking to a standing room-only audience. “When you represent a tenant in eviction proceedings and prevent him from becoming one of the homeless statistics, you matter. When you help a foster parent to adopt a neglected child giving him a safe and loving home, you matter. When you fight discrimination to bring equal justice to our society, you matter. Sometimes we forget how much it matters to someone to have an advocate, to have someone to listen.”
The recipients honored include:
- Partners: Scott Winkelman (DC); David Lindner (Chicago)
- Counsel: Nicholas Dowd (Denver); Judy He (Chicago)
- Associates: Matt Menezes (SF), Isabella Ordorica (OC)
- International Attorneys: Charles Wakiwaka (London); Miriam Karam (London)
- Counsel: Andrew Bagley (DC); Rachel Stevens (NY)
- Practice Support: Keith Kaider (DC); Sangeeta Joshi (DC)
- Staff: Awaly Diallo (DC); Tricia Wyse (DC)
- It’s a Wonderful Lifetime Achievement Award: Cliff Zatz (DC); Ira Saxe (NY); Harry Cohen (NY)
“The toughest part of the George Bailey awards event is that we aren’t able to recognize each of you who have mattered through your participation in the public service efforts of the firm and to thank you for making a difference,” said Tiana L. Russell, the firm’s Public Service partner.
