Recognized for the Franklin Apartments Pro Bono Victory

Washington – June 11, 2026: Crowell & Moring is proud to announce that the firm has been recognized with an Outstanding Achievement Award by the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs at the 2026 Wiley A. Branton Luncheon. The award celebrates the firm's work on behalf of tenants of the Franklin Apartments, a building in northeast Washington, D.C., where residents endured years of deplorable housing conditions before the firm helped secure a landmark settlement.

In 2023, Crowell & Moring, together with co-counsel from the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, filed suit in D.C. Superior Court against the building's owner and property manager on behalf of several tenants and the Tenant Association. The case centered on severe and persistent housing violations, and after extensive litigation, a settlement was reached in June 2025, resulting in favorable damages payouts to the tenant clients.

"Pro bono work allows us to extend our skills to those who might otherwise have nowhere to turn," said Dan Wolff, Partner at Crowell & Moring. "These tenants deserved to have their voices heard, and the team at Crowell who worked on this matter was committed to making that happen."

The Washington Lawyers' Committee presented Crowell & Moring with its Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2026 Wiley A. Branton Luncheon in recognition of the firm's dedication to its clients and the significant results achieved on their behalf.

"At its core, this work is about ensuring that everyone has access to quality legal representation,” said Mimi Dennis, Counsel at Crowell & Moring. "We are grateful to the Washington Lawyers' Committee for this recognition and for their partnership every step of the way."

The Crowell & Moring team included Dan Wolff, Mimi Dennis, Eli Berns-Zieve, Daniel Shemesh, Brentnie Brown, Alicia Clausen, Morgan Phoenix, Keith Kaider, Sharon Henry, Felicia Isaac, and Kyle Lyons-Bourke.
