Amica Center Honors Crowell & Moring with Foundational Partner Award

Firm News | 2 min read | 10.09.24

Washington – October 9, 2024: The Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, formerly known as Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights (CAIR) Coalition, honored Crowell & Moring with the “Foundational Partner Award” in recognition of the firm’s commitment to fight for immigrant rights. The award was presented at the organization’s 25th anniversary event on September 26th and recognized Crowell attorneys and staff who have worked with Amica Center and its clients throughout the organization’s 25-year history.

Crowell attorneys and staff have partnered with the Amica Center on a wide array of pro bono immigration matters, including representing asylum seekers and unaccompanied immigrant children. Crowell’s partnership with the Amica Center stems over two decades, with the firm assisting on a number of matters, including participating in legal orientation programs at detention centers, credible fear interviews, defensive asylum cases, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases, and other matters. Notably, Crowell attorneys successfully represented a Honduran citizen facing a final order of removal from the Board of Immigration Appeals, among other significant cases.

The Amica Center was created to help the thousands of immigrants who face detention and deportation alone, without the ability to afford a lawyer.  Originally founded as a project of the Washington Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, it became an independent non-profit in 1999 known as the CAIR Coalition. Over the years, the Amica Center has grown into a vital resource for immigrants in need, providing critical legal support and advocacy to ensure their rights are protected.
