About Us
Our founders aspired to create a different kind of law firm when they launched Crowell & Moring in 1979. From those bold beginnings, our mission has been to provide our clients with the best services of any law firm in the world through a spirit of trust, respect, cooperation, collaboration, and a commitment to giving back to the communities around us.
Today, Crowell lawyers are as passionate about the firm and its role in helping clients to advance their ambitions as the firm’s founding partners were 45+ years ago. Our conviction that diverse teams are the key to truly innovative thinking and outcomes is at the heart of our differentiated approach to client service. That’s why many of the world’s leading companies turn to us for their mission-critical needs. Drawing on significant government, business, and industry experience, the firm advises clients on complex litigation, regulatory and policy, intellectual property, and corporate and transactional matters. Crowell & Moring partners with clients to capitalize on opportunities, mitigate risk, and deliver value based on their definition.
We are incredibly proud of the fact that we still serve many of the same clients today who have been with us from day one. Our commitment to and investment in our client relationships has guided our strategic growth. We have continued to diversify our practice mix to reflect the dynamic business environment and expanded our footprint in the U.S. and in international markets to support our global client base.
As legal professionals, we have the privilege and opportunity to use our skills to forge change well beyond our firm community, and at Crowell, we have a proud and storied history of living that commitment through our pro bono public service efforts. We are determined to live out our values to the fullest extent possible, to act more than we speak, and to remain steadfast in finding new and innovative ways to bring about meaningful change for our community and the people we serve.
The Crowell & Moring community believes that its mission and greatest success requires us to be genuinely diverse and meaningfully inclusive. We know that real work yet remains for us to achieve our best self. Crowell & Moring stands with all who embrace true equity as an imperative, and who are committed to the intentional actions we must take to achieve it.

What else sets us apart? One day many years ago, someone left a rubber duck in the rather serious fountain that stands in the reception area of our Washington, DC office. Over the years, the duck population has grown, along with our sense of humor—and belief that sophisticated, complex law need not be practiced in an ivory tower. Rather, it happens with both feet firmly planted on the ground. |
