Overview

Tiana L. Russell is currently Public Service Counsel at Crowell & Moring where she promotes, supervises, and participates in the pro bono work performed by the firm's attorneys. This work ranges from representation of the homeless, elderly individuals, and persons living with AIDS to assisting domestic violence victims in obtaining protection orders to “impact” and appellate litigation.

Following her graduation from New York University Law School, Ms. Russell joined a large international law firm. While there, she handled varied aspects of antitrust and civil litigation, working on cases at the trial court and appellate levels. An important part of her career there included work on a variety of pro bono matters. She was an integral member of that firm’s Immigration Committee, overseeing and coordinating the firm’s active pro bono immigration practice. Ms. Russell also maintained an active pro bono docket that included housing, international human rights, and criminal law matters, in addition to immigration cases.

Prior to joining Crowell & Moring, Ms. Russell served as a trial attorney in the Washington Criminal I Section of the Antitrust Division at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and as counsel to the assistant attorney general in the Antitrust Division at DOJ. While at DOJ, Ms. Russell investigated and prosecuted complex cases involving price-fixing, bid-rigging, and mail and wire fraud. She also took on the informal role of pro bono coordinator of her section, hosting brown bag trainings and circulating pro bono opportunities.

Ms. Russell has served on several community and public interest group boards and advisory committees, including the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless and the D.C. Bar Foundation. Ms. Russell has served on the faculty of several law schools, including the George Washington University School of Law and Aarhus University School of Law.
