Washington – September 11, 2020: Working Mother magazine has named Crowell & Moring one of the “Best Law Firms for Women” for the ninth consecutive year. The firm is among 60 firms across the nation to be recognized for its ability to recruit, retain, promote, and develop women lawyers.
“We are proud that our strong commitment to build and retain a diverse community of legal professionals is once again being recognized by Working Mother,” said Don Smith, the firm’s chief talent & inclusion officer. “We actively recruit, retain, and provide professional development opportunities to help our women lawyers advance to the highest levels of our profession. Our Women’s Leadership Initiative also continues to serve as an excellent resource for our women lawyers.”
Crowell & Moring has a long history of women leadership. In 1995, the firm became the first major Washington-based law firm to elect a female chair, Rosemary Collyer, who later became a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The firm’s current management board comprises 33% women, including Ellen Moran Dwyer, chair of the firm’s executive committee, and fellow board members, Cheryl A. Falvey, Jennifer S. Romano, and Kirsten L. Nathanson.
“Law firms on this year’s list were better prepared to respond to the effects of the pandemic because of their continued support of flextime and remote work for working parents and caregivers,” said Subha V. Barry, president of Working Mother Media. “We are proud to recognize their resilience and steadfast commitment to supporting gender equality.”
Each year, Working Mother distributes an application that includes more than 300 questions about attorney demographics at different levels, schedule flexibility, paid time off and parental leaves, and development and retention of women. The full list of firms can be viewed here.
