Firm Honored for "40 at 50" Benchmark

Washington, D.C. – April, 24 2006: For the second consecutive year, Crowell & Moring LLP will be honored by the Chief Judges of the District of Columbia Circuit for its commitment to pro bono work. The firm will be honored for meeting the benchmark of having 40 percent of its attorneys personally provide 50 or more hours of pro bono service in 2005. "The 40 at 50: Judicial Pro Bono Recognition Breakfast" will be held April 24, 2006 at 8 a.m. at the E. Barrett Prettyman United States Courthouse, and is sponsored by the D.C. Circuit Judicial Conference Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Services.

"As members of the legal profession, we have an ethical obligation to see that equal access to justice exists for all by providing pro bono legal services to low income and indigent individuals. This ideal cannot be realized without maximum participation of each member of our Bar in pro bono efforts, ” said Susan M. Hoffman, Public Service partner at Crowell & Moring.

First held in 2003, "The 40 at 50: Judicial Pro Bono Recognition Breakfast" aims to encourage increased pro bono activity by attorneys in the District of Columbia Circuit, acknowledge firms that have made strides to reach the 50-hour standard, and publicize the increase in the ethical standard, which was adopted by District of Columbia Circuit Judicial Conference Resolution in 1998, from 40 hours per attorney to 50 hours per attorney.

Out of the 166 Washington law firms surveyed, Crowell & Moring was one of the 14 firms that qualified for the honor. Only Washington law firm offices consisting of 25 or more attorneys were eligible.

Recently ranked 18th in American Lawyer's ‘Pro Bono Report’, Crowell & Moring has committed itself - as a firm and as a community of professionals - to assure that all citizens have access to the legal system. Crowell & Moring's promotion of broad participation in pro bono work by the firm's attorneys and staff has enabled the firm to serve a range of community needs.

Crowell & Moring LLP is a full-service law firm with more than 300 attorneys practicing in litigation, antitrust, government contracts, corporate, intellectual property and more than 40 other practice areas. More than two-thirds of the firm's attorneys regularly litigate disputes on behalf of domestic and international corporations, start-up businesses, and individuals.
